Form 4 Peter
Great legacies are not measured by power, wealth or strength, but by the lives they change. This is reflected in the lives of St Peter and St Paul. Although they came from different walks of life and went through different hardships, both became great christian missionaries through their unwavering faith and sacrifice.
As a Eurasian of Portuguese descent, I have grown up celebrating Festa de San Pedro, just as my ancestors did. Every year, the joyful sounds of music, the aroma of traditional delicacies and the laughter of families fill the air with warmth and happiness. Like many others, I knew that the festival honoured St Peter, but I never truly understood the story behind the man whose name we celebrated. It was only as I grew older that I began to appreciate not only the remarkable life of St Peter but the extraordinary transformation of St Paul. Through their stories, I discovered that Festa de San Pedro is far more than a celebration, its a testament to faith, perseverance and the rich heritage passed down by our ancestors.
St Peter originally known as Simon, was a humble fisherman from Bethsaida who worked alongside his brother Andrew in Capernaum. His life changed forever when Jesus called him to become one of his Disciples. Despite his deep love for Christ, Peter was not perfect. During Jesus’ Passion, he denied knowing him three times out of fear. Yet after repenting, he was forgiven and entrusted with leading the church. His journey from an ordinary fisherman to a courages leader and first Pope of the Catholic Church, teaches us that our mistakes don’t define us. Instead it is our willingness to repent, trust in God and start again that truly matters.
St Paul on the other hand, experienced an even more dramatic transformation. Formerly known as Saul, he persecuted Christians and opposed the teachings of Jesus. However his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus transformed his life completely. Filled with faith, he travelled tirelessly across many lands to spread the word of God. Despite facing imprisonment, suffering and persecution, his story reminds us that no one is beyond saving and that God’s mercy, love and patience is infinite. So it is never too late to change for the better.
Even with so many differences, St Peter and St Paul shared one common mission: To proclaim the Good News and to bring others closer to Jesus Christ. Their examples demonstrate that God calls people from all walks of life to serve him in different ways. Inspired by them, I hope we can carry their legacy forward. The Malaysian Portuguese are descendents of fisherman and followers of Christ. May we continue to cast our nets not only into the sea, but also into the hearts and lives of others, becoming true fishers of men inspiring and making a difference through our faith and belief in Jesus Christ.

When people think of Peter and Paul, in terms of Christianity, they think of the followers of Jesus. Which is fair, they were the followers of Jesus, but they were two very different people who walked two different paths, which were eventually joined together by faith. Even though they came from different backgrounds and had different personalities, they both dedicated their lives to spreading and teaching the word of god. Additionally they have shown us that nobody is perfect, but if wanted they can change and make a difference.
Peter was one of Jesus’ first disciples. He was a fisherman named Simon, but Jesus gave him a new name called Peter which means “rock”. Peter was known to be extroverted and very much passionate about the things he did. He cared for Jesus deeply but he also made grave mistakes. One of those mistakes being when he denied knowing Jesus three times before Jesus was crucified. Every time I think of this story I feel a bit sad because it reminds me of how fear can cause us to do and say things that stray from the things we believe, knowing later on regret will take over. However, what makes Peter’s story compelling is that he didn’t let that mistake define who he was. He repented and continued to preach the word of the lord.
After Jesus’ resurrection Peter became one of the leaders of the early church. He preached outwardly and brought many people closer to God. Despite hardships of persecution and retaliation he stood strong in his beliefs. What makes Peter human is that he was not perfect. He doubted, made mistakes and struggled yet he never gave up. His story teaches us that failure is not the end if we are willing to continue to grow and do right to the bible.
Paul’s story is immensely different. Before becoming a disciple of Jesus, he was known as Saul and actively oppressed Christianity. He had believed he was doing the right thing, but all that changed as soon as he had his dramatic encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. This event turned his world around. This event amazes me as to how much a person can change in their beliefs. It gives me hope that people are capable of change to become the best version of themselves, no matter their past and mistakes.
After the encounter Paul became one of Christianity biggest missionaries, he travelled to many places spreading the word and establishing churches. He faced imprisonment, rejection and many hardships, but he kept going and preaching in what he believed. Paul wrote many letters that later became part of the new testament. These letters are read by millions of people everyday.
Both Peter and Paul had the perseverance to carry on. Neither of them had an easy life, facing challenges such as criticism and suffering, yet they stayed strong in their faith. Peter teaches us about forgiveness and second chances, while Paul teaches us that it’s never too late to change the course of your life and all you need is a little conversation with God together with a pinch of courage. Their lives remind us that people can overcome any obstacles and become stronger through faith and determination.
In conclusion Peter and Paul were two remarkable men whose stories inspire people around the world. Although they came from different backgrounds, they shared the same dedication to serving God. Their stories are not just about religion, they are also about hope, change and forgiveness, not forgetting perseverance. That’s why whenever you hear about Peter and Paul, remind yourselves that our mistakes do not define us, and that with be help of faith we can be the best version of ourselves.

Saint Peter and Saint Paul are recognized as the two most important leaders of the early Church. These two Saints are called the pillars of the Church, these saints came from different lifestyle and had different personalities. Otherwise, their shared love for Jesus Christ transformed them from ordinary, flawed individuals into heroes who changed the world. They help us to take our mistakes and weakness to turn something purposeful and good.
The lives of these two apostles shows that one does not need a perfect background to become a great leader. Peter was a simple, hard-working fisherman who ended up leading Jesus’s twelve disciples. Even though he was very close to Jesus, Peter was deeply human and made significant mistakes, such as getting scared on the night Jesus was arrested and lying three times about knowing Him. However, Peter’s story is about a second chance; he was forgiven, became the leader of the early Church, and was eventually martyred in Rome by being crucified upside down. His symbolic items are a set of keys that he got from Jesus and a fisherman’s net, and his real-world artifacts include the Holy Chains kept in Rome.
On the other hand, Paul was an educated scholar who initially hunted down and arrested Christians since he was a pharisee. Everything changed when a blinding light and a vision of Jesus Christ knocked him off his feet on the road to Damascus. When he was spiritually reborn, Paul used his sharp mind to travel the ancient world, start new communities, and write letters that make up a large part of the New Testament before he was eventually executed in Rome. His traditional symbolic items are a scroll and a sword, while his physical history is preserved through artifacts like the Chain of Saint Paul. What really made Peter and Paul so special was that they allowed their flaws, mistakes, and pure regrets to become good and powerful for strength.
Peter was a normal man who was scared under pressure, while Paul was a pharisee an enemy who had to admit he was very wrong and wants to start his life all over again. Their true greatness and capabilities show us that anyone can be chosen to do something great and positive regardless of their past. Together, they proved that their teamwork means using different talents, items, behaviours, and backgrounds to achieve a common goal.
In conclusion, as a youth, I do not need to live in the world like Peter and Paul. It’s about choosing my proper attitudes in my daily life. Living like Peter means believing in the power of a second chance, understanding that my worst mistakes do not define my future, and having the courage to try again after a failure. While living like Paul means keeping an open mind and being honest with oneself, which allows me to change my direction when I find a better path, even if it means stepping out of my comfort zone and turning my struggles into badges of honour. Both saints teach us to embrace our unique strengths to help others and make a lasting impact in the real world.
