The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred. This includes our brothers and sisters re-entering society, seeking for a second chance at life.
Moved by the Holy Spirit with love and humility, the Parish Integral Human Development Ministry (PIHDM) of the Church of the Divine Mercy, in partnership with Malaysian CARE, are establishing a home called, Domus Pacis for incarcerated women and those in need of a safe space. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for this partnership between both parties was signed on July 25th, 2024.
Beyond serving as a residence, Domus Pacis, meaning “House of Peace”, will be a supportive community where women who have been incarcerated can find comfort, assistance, and a chance for a fresh start. Residents will have access to essential resources, personalised guidance, and a nurturing environment that fosters healing and growth.
Speaking about the parish community’s role in supporting the journey ahead, the PIHDM of CDM shares, “We are deeply grateful for your support, which has been crucial in making this project a reality. As we move forward, we ask for your continued support and prayers. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of women and offer them the hope and refuge they need. Thank you for standing with us in faith.”
This new home is an Integral Human Development project inspired by Rumah Kepercayaan (RK) project, an existing halfway home run by Malaysian CARE. Domus Pacis is a commitment to social justice and support for marginalised communities. CDM’s PIHDM and Malaysian CARE’s vision for Domus Pacis is for it to be a beacon of hope and empowerment, aiding individuals in overcoming past difficulties and building a better future.
The spirit of this project is reflected beautifully in the Gospel of Luke 10:25-37, when the good Samaritan recognised the dignity in the other and cared for his life.
