CDM Observes End of Bible Month and World Elderly Day

The weekend masses last week were animated by the vibrant energy of our Sunday School children, particularly the Form 1 and Form 2 students, and the elderly.

The young members of our parish took on significant roles in the liturgy as lectors. They also recited the Prayers of the Faithful and formed a beautiful choir that enriched our liturgy.

In a special highlight of the 10 am mass, about 30 children dressed as Bible characters and processed in with parish priest Father George Harrison, Brother Albert Arputhan, and the altar servers, marking the end of Bible Month 2024.

The 12 pm mass in BM, meanwhile, was graced by celebrant Father Simon Labrooy. About 12 children were dressed as various Bible characters, and the choir was made up of a strong group of 20 children. Our young parishioners also participated as lectors.

These children, in their colourful and creative costumes, even had the delightful opportunity of being interviewed by Father George.

It was heartwarming to witness these young parishioners actively participating in the liturgy. Their involvement served as a joyful conclusion to our Bible Month celebrations.

The weekend masses also celebrated the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, recognising the invaluable contributions of the elderly to our families and society.

In his homily, Father George focused on this year’s theme, “Do not cast me away in my old age” (Psalm 71:9).

He highlighted the essential role of the elderly as vital links between generations, sharing their wisdom and life experiences. He pointed out that often, the elderly are forgotten, but their contributions are crucial for maintaining family and community bonds.

Father George encouraged the faithful to show their appreciation to their grandparents and the elderly through calls, visits, and just being present. The day served as a reminder of the profound gifts and wisdom the elderly bring, and the importance of building meaningful connections across generations.

Fr. George prayed for the elderly and blessed them during mass.

A touching moment during the mass was when Father George called the elderly towards the sanctuary, prayed for them, and blessed them with holy water. There was also a cake-cutting ceremony.

This blessing emphasised CDM’s appreciation and respect for its senior members.
