Preliminary Round

Questions are based on Genesis-Exodus

Genesis (origin or beginning) is the first book of the Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy). The book has two major sections:-

  1. The Creation And Expansion Of The Human Race (Gen 1-11)

God creates the world and everything in it from nothing; he gives special attention to

Adam and Eve who are disobedient and fall into sin

  1. The Story Of Abraham And His Descendants (Gen. 12-50)

In order to remedy the fall, God chooses Abraham and his descendants (Israel) as a faithful people who will be a light to all other nations.

Exodus (or departure), the second book of the Pentateuch

Exodus deals with the departure of Israel, the deliverance from bondage from Egypt and their way to the Promised Land.

The two major themes of the book are:-

  1. Yahweh, the God of Israel, by a series of great miracles liberated them from the slavery of Egypt. Under the inspired leadership of Moses (Exodus), they learn the lesson of God's goodness.
  2. Yahweh made a covenant with Israel at Mt. Sinai.

Israel become God's holy people united to him by an everlasting covenant (Exod. 19-24).

At Mt. Sinai, Moses seals a covenant with the Lord, who gives him the Ten Commandments.

God's terms for the covenant; if Israel obeys them she will be blessed and protected; if she violates them, especially the First Commandment, then she will be punished severely.

Final Round

The Gospel of John. (sometimes called the Book of Signs and the Book of Glory)

John's Gospel gives us the Spirit of Jesus, the promised Messiah who is God come in the flesh to redeem mankind showing us that Jesus of Nazareth was Christ, the Son of God, and that believers in him might have eternal life- ‘I am the Resurrection and The Life’ (Jn 11:25).

John specifically states his purpose in 20:31, "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
